Muhammad Ali’s Gold Medal Moment
Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., was born on January 17, 1942, Louisville, Kentucky. He would later change his name to Muhammad Ali and hold the world heavyweight title three times. But in 1960, Clay was an 18-year old boxer who won the Olympic light heavyweight crown in Rome, pummeling his Polish opponent in the final. It’s said that Clay was so proud of his gold medal that he didn’t take it off for two days.
